Ammonia energy refers to the use of ammonia (NH3) as a renewable energy carrier and fuel. Ammonia can be produced from renewable sources through processes such as electrolysis and nitrogen fixation, making it a potential solution for energy storage and transport, especially in contexts where hydrogen is difficult to store or transport. As an energy carrier, ammonia can be utilized in fuel cells to generate electricity or combusted directly to produce energy. It has the added benefit of being relatively easy to liquefy and store, which can aid in the integration of renewable energy systems, particularly for mitigating intermittency issues associated with solar and wind power.
