Green Ammonia

Green ammonia refers to ammonia that is produced through sustainable and environmentally friendly methods, primarily using renewable energy sources. Unlike traditional ammonia production, which typically involves natural gas and emits significant amounts of carbon dioxide, green ammonia is synthesized using renewable electricity from sources such as wind, solar, or hydro power to split water into hydrogen and oxygen (a process known as electrolysis). The hydrogen is then combined with nitrogen, typically sourced from the air, to create ammonia. This process not only reduces greenhouse gas emissions but also contributes to the decarbonization of agriculture and energy sectors, as ammonia is a key component in fertilizers and can also be used as a carbon-free fuel alternative. Green ammonia is seen as a potential solution for energy storage and transportation due to its high energy density and established infrastructure for distribution.
